Whether you are a beach enthusiast or you are decorating your home to complement its coastal location, adding a beach theme to your living room will create a relaxing, laid-back atmosphere. The essence of the beach can be captured by using colors found at the beach and with decorative beach elements like seashells. Does this Spark an idea?
Color Palate and Painting
The key to capturing a beach theme in your living room is to utilize beach colors. Select nude colors that are similar to the shade of sand; light blues and turquoise to capture the color of the ocean; and shades of brown plus pristine white to offer a natural contrast. Depending on your preference and the size of your room, paint the walls nude or white, using nude for larger rooms and white for smaller rooms. Depending on the layout and your tastes, you may also consider painting one wall light blue or turquoise.
Furniture
Select rustic wooden furniture for end tables and your coffee table. Choose light or unfinished woods or wicker furniture for your couch and chairs with white, blue or nude cushions. Add contrasting throw pillows from the same color palate. For example, if you select a white couch, add blue and turquoise throw pillows, and if you select a deep blue couch, add white and sand-colored throw pillows.
Accents
Beach accents tie the room together. Select artwork and wall decorations that make use of seashells, fish and other marine life. Add throw pillows to your couch that have seashells or starfish decorations on them. Fill a large glass vase with sand and seashells to make a coffee table centerpiece, and display beach-themed magazines and books on the coffee table. Additionally, if you have a large open wall, consider hanging a large piece of driftwood in lieu of artwork.
