How to Set Up a Bar for a Party

Planning to throw a party that you want people to remember for a long time? Details are important, and having a fully stocked, fully functioning bar is essential. It's a key ingredient to having a fun and flavorful evening. Here's a step-by-step guide to setting up a bar for a party. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Pick a good spot, and decorate your bar. Don't hide your bar around the corner, or put it in a place where people are going to climb over each other to reach it. Make it accessible for your guests. A beautiful bar will enhance the party, so think about decorations that match the theme of the party. If you're using a table, cover it with a table cloth that matches your theme.

    2

Know your crowd, and stock accordingly. Having a full bar isn't necessary, but be prepared, and have a little of everything on hand. Stock heavily on the drinks that are in line with your theme, and stock lightly on other drinks.

    3

Refrigeration is key. No one likes warm beer. Keep your drinks cold. Make sure you have more than enough refrigerator space before the party begins. Put drinks that need cooling into the refrigerator the night before the party, so they're cold when your guests arrive. Always have plenty of ice on hand.

    4

Stock up on garnishes. You should have your own mini "produce section" behind the bar, with plenty of limes, lemons, pineapple and other assorted fruits for your cocktail creations. Have them prepared in advance.

    5

Make sure you have enough glasses, and have someone available to keep the empty and discarded glasses running through the wash. Try to keep a constant supply of glasses throughout the party.

    6

Buy cocktail napkins. While not necessary, they add a nice touch.

    7

Make sure your bartender knows what she's doing. A good bartender makes a successful bar.
