As you celebrate the end-of-the-year holidays with your office staff, keep the office at the forefront of peoples' minds by creating themed table toppers. A table topper adds a decoration to the event. Table toppers may reflect the overall theme of the festivities, going along with the room's decorations, and they help guests get in the spirit. Custom table toppers don't need to be expensive; you'll find a variety of festive craft options in your office supply closet. Does this Spark an idea?
Rubber Band Ball
Remind your office mates of the fun they had as kids by placing a holiday-themed rubber band ball in the center of each table. If you have bulk packs of colored rubber bands in your office supply cabinet, separate out all the red, green, blue and yellow colors, then divide the red and greens into one pile and the blue and yellow (or white) into another. Start the ball by looping bands around a crumpled piece of tin foil or pink rubber eraser and build as big as you can get the ball. If your company only has the traditional beige rubber bands, dye them in small pots with food coloring or clothing coloring. After you've made a large ball for each table, insert a small flag with the table number so people know where to sit and let guests compete to take the prize home.
Pencil Menorah
Each year at Chanukkah, Jews light a candelabrum called a menorah. While the menorah is used with candles, you can craft a version of the religious decoration out of traditional office supplies such as pencils and erasers. Menorahs are comprised of nine candle holders. To make the prongs, piece each eraser with a sharp scissors and insert the pencil's eraser end so the sharp points stick up. Stack a few erasers together with glue and insert the ninth pencil; most menorahs have a slightly higher prong for the candle that does the lighting. For extra holiday cheer, spray paint the pencils and erasers with your company colors or blue and white for traditional Chanukkah hues. One box of sharpened pencils should make enough for multiple table toppers.
Paper Clip Garland
As you sit on hold waiting for a conference call or to place an order, spend time separating out the red and green paper clips from your bulk pack of rainbow clips. Once you've got the traditional Christmas colors ready, attach them together end to end to make a garland. You may be familiar with garlands of tinsel, popcorn or cranberries, but red and green paper clips make a festive way to decorate anything on your table. String them around the edges of the table or pile them in the middle. They can also be used to decorate anything placed in the middle of the table, such as the table number. Create multiple strings of garlands from all red and all green clips and curl in the middle of the table for an extra artistic look.
