Aside from the caroling and shopping done during the Christmas season, Christmas just isn't Christmas without decorations. Though you can buy some Christmas decorations at various local shops, to truly make your decorations unique, think about making some yourself. Ask your family to help you make the Christmas creations to get everyone in the holiday spirit. Does this Spark an idea?
Ornaments
To make your own globe-shaped ornaments, gather together white polystyrene foam balls and an assortment of paint, glitter and sequins. Decorate the balls with the art supplies and stick a wire loop through the top of each ball to hang them on the tree after they dry. You can also create a simple Rudolph ornament by gluing craft googly eyes onto one side of a wooden craft stick and adding a red cotton-ball for the nose below and some brown pipe cleaners above for the antlers. Attach a hook to the stick's top and hang it on the tree.
Wreath
Make a wreath full of jingling bells by first gathering up a piece of craft wire and bending it into a half circle. The length of the craft wire depends on how big you want your wreath to be. Bend one end of the wire into a loop so that the bells do not slide off of it, then string small bells onto the wire one at a time until the whole wire is full of bells. Simply attach both ends of the wire together to create the wreath and wrap a ribbon around the bottom middle of the wreath. Hang the wreath with a small ribbon attached to its top. You can make an easier wreath by decorating a pre-made wreath with themed decor items. For example, a gingerbread house-themed wreath may be decorated with gingerbread men, candy canes and other hardened sweets.
Garlands
Make a simple Christmas paper chain garland to hang on the tree or in various locations around the house, such as above a doorway or on the mantelpiece. Cut out small 2-inch-wide, 6-inch-long strips of red and green construction paper. Loop one strip into the next, securing the ends with glue and alternating the colors as you go until you reach your desired chain length. For a more traditional garland, such as a popcorn garland, pull a threaded needle through pieces of popcorn, one at a time, until you have a garland long enough to fit around the tree.
Other Ideas
Create a Christmas centerpiece for your table by filling a clear flower vase with various Christmas items, such as candy canes, red and green ribbons, and Christmas ornaments. Insert the items in a cohesive pattern, stopping when the vase is three-quarters full. Arrange a few poinsettias at the vase's top and tie a ribbon around the vase's neck. For a humorous outdoor decoration, create an elf entrance to your home. Decorate a rectangular piece of cardboard to look just like a smaller version of your decorated front door; tape it to the wall next to your front door.
