Ideas for Decorating Your Kitchen for Christmas

Ideas for Decorating Your Kitchen for Christmas

Between shopping for gifts, wrapping them and planning gatherings, there is a lot to prepare during the Christmas season. Decorating your home is another part of the preparation process as decorating helps to put you and your guests into the Christmas spirit. When decorating your home, don't forget to trim your kitchen and make the heart of your home a festive place for friends and family to gather. Does this Spark an idea?

Countertop Tree

If you have counter space that you can spare, place a small pine tree on top of it -- either real or artificial. Wrap a string of white or colored lights around the tree, and trim it with kitchen utensils. See if you can find mini utensils at a novelty or home store, and make loops with red and green ribbon and place them on the utensils to use to hang them on the tree. If you can't find mini utensils, use full-size utensils; just use less of them. Or instead of using utensils, use Christmas-shaped cookie cutters on the tree -- stars, snowmen, even other Christmas trees.

Dish of Presents

Make a dish of presents for a table centerpiece. Wrap small boxes -- either all the same size or in a variety of sizes -- in Christmas paper. On a serving dish or a decorative dinner plate, arrange the presents in an attractive display. Place the dish in the center of your table. To add more interest to the decoration, surround it with tea lights or place the dish on top of a runner or doily.

Pine Boughs

For a kitchen that has space on top of your cabinets, use it to display pine boughs. Purchase either artificial or real pine boughs and wrap them with artificial poinsettias, Christmas ornaments, sprigs of holly and bows and strings of white or colored lights. Run them along the top of your cabinets to add interest to the space.

Chandelier of Ornaments

Spice up a chandelier over your kitchen table for Christmas with ornaments. Buy ornaments that suit your style, and hang them on the arms of the light fixture. To further embellish the chandelier, string silver, gold or green garland through the arms.

Christmas Dishtowels

Trade in your ordinary dish towels during the Christmas season for dishtowels that are adorned with Christmas-inspired designs. You can purchase these towels from retailers, or you can make your own while enjoying a craft project with your family. To make your own, buy plain white, red or green dish towels. Use fabric paint and stamps to create patterns on the towels. Display the towels around your kitchen.
