Christmas centerpieces should not only wow your guests, but they should be simple to make. Although you can purchase centerpieces, they can be very expensive. Make your own centerpieces easily and cheaply. These centerpieces can be saved from year to year, although you might find yourself making a different one each season. Does this Spark an idea?
Candy Cane Vase
Find a large can from your recycling bin and wash it out thoroughly; this is the vase, so make sure it is an appropriate size for your table. Gather several dozen candy canes. You can use the classic red and white, or use a more colorful variety. Leave the candy in the wrapper. Lay the can on its side and run a line of hot glue from top to bottom. Press a candy cane into the glue and hold it firmly until the glue dries; the candy cane should be standing from the bottom to the top of the can with the hook at the top facing out. Repeat around the can with the candy canes, putting them as close to each other as possible. Once finished, place a bundle of red and white flowers that you have purchased inside with some water.
Ornaments
This centerpiece is deceptively simple yet very elegant. Find or purchase a large clear vase. Put brightly colored ornaments into the vase, all the way to the top. You can use all one color for a monochromatic look or add variety with several colors. If you can't find one large vase, use several short bowls or containers and place them along the middle of the table. You can add a strand of battery-powered twinkle lights to the vase for a soft glow to your centerpiece.
Snowman
This fun centerpiece works if you are having a family party or a gathering with friends and their children. Use three Styrofoam balls to create a snowman; use a hot glue gun to adhere them to each other. Paint them with white Snowtex paint; it gives the illusion of paint. Using pins, add buttons or use felt circles down the middle of the snowman. Stick twigs into him for arms and add paint to his face. Wrap a red scrap of felt or fabric around his neck for a scarf. Place him in the middle of the table. You can make several snowmen to line the table, just be sure each one looks a little different.
Simple Centerpieces
Many items can serve as a centerpiece, even if it is not officially what you might think of as a centerpiece. If you are having a party, use the food as a natural centerpiece. Pile a bowl full of fruit and nuts and place it in the middle of the table. If you have made a gingerbread house, don't hide it away; put it in the middle of the table to show off. Red, green, gold or silver candles give a table a soft warm glow; put a few ornaments among them to add to the Christmas theme. Wrap a few empty boxes in pretty gift wrap and arrange them in the middle of the table.
