A glass top on a table may protect what lies beneath or make a clean, modern style statement. A dirty glass tabletop does neither. The clichd housekeeper's dismissal, "I don't do windows" suggests a tedious task. Not so. Cleaning a glass tabletop is so simple, you can teach your child to do it for you. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Ascertain whether the glass is easy to flip. An all-over clean will be easier if you can turn the glass over to clean the bottom.
2Choose your wiping rag. Lint-free rags can come from retired clothing or be bought. Paper towels are readily available and most brands have no lint. Crumpled newspaper does a wonderful job, and you can complete the recycling sequence by using them to kindle your next fireplace or barbecue flame.
3Choose a glass cleaner. Commercial glass cleaners come in an array of colors and odors. Almost every one works well. For a natural approach, pour two tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice into a pint spray container and add tap water. The same proportions of ammonia work, too--and ammonia comes in a variety of pleasant scents.
4Spray on a little glass cleaner and wipe the first surface until it is completely dry. Pay attention to corners and edges.
5Flip the glass top (if possible) and clean the second surface. Use the wiping rags when flipping, so you do not add fingerprints. If the glass top is permanently affixed, climb under the table to clean the bottom.
6If paint has spilled and dried on your table, loosen its grip by wetting the area and carefully scraping with a single-edged razor blade. The blade will not scratch glass as long as you keep the area wet.
