Kids can design easy-to-make Christmas crafts to use as holiday dinner party centerpieces. Display the centerpieces on the main dinner table for a sentimental and whimsical touch, or use them to jazz up the kids' table. Centerpiece crafts make ideal Christmas party art projects. Set up a craft table and allow each child to make her own centerpiece design to take home. Does this Spark an idea?
Snowman Showpiece
Kids can construct a simple snowman-inspired table centerpiece using three 3-inch polystyrene foam balls. Connect the three balls together using toothpicks to form the snowman's body. Use a butter knife to flatten the base of the bottom ball so the figure will stand on a table. Glue small black pom-poms to the top ball as the snowman's eyes and mouth, and three pom-poms down the middle ball as buttons. Create a carrot-inspired nose by inserting a small piece of an orange chenille craft stick between the eyes and mouth. Kids can stick two toothpicks or thin twigs in either side of the middle ball to resemble the snowman's arms. Finish the centerpiece by wrapping a small strip of red or green felt or ribbon between the first and second balls to form a scarf.
Candy Cane Candle
A candy cane candle centerpiece will make a sweet addition to a kids' or adults' Christmas dinner table. Kids can easily assemble the craft by gluing wrapped candy canes all around the perimeter of a wide pillar candle. Attach the candy canes to the candle hook-down. When applying glue to the backs of the candy canes, place some on the sides as well so the canes adhere to each other, creating a more secure hold. Arrange the canes so that the canes' arches are resting on the table. Complete the festive craft by tying a wide red or green ribbon into a bow around the candy canes.
Sugar Cone Tree
Help a child create a sugar cone tree centerpiece that looks good enough to eat. To begin the project, place a sugar cone upside down on a red or green paper plate. Using a butter knife, completely cover the cone with green frosting. Have the child decorate the sugar cone Christmas tree by pressing small candies, such as red hots, candy-coated chocolate morsels and gumdrops into the frosting. A long red licorice rope makes an ideal garland.
