Easy Table Decorations

Table decorations can be made easily and cheaply from materials around the house with a small amount of craftsmanship and ingenuity. By adding simple decorations to a table, a certain amount of fun, elegance and class is created while you and your guests dine together. These are most appropriate for parties or events which are held at a house or elsewhere but can be used for the home dining room table to add an extra bit of flair to just about any meal. Does this Spark an idea?

Gingerbread Village Centerpiece

For a Christmas or holiday-oriented event, creating an edible centerpiece like a gingerbread village is an excellent idea. While the gingerbread villages might take some time to decorate and construct, they are a unique centerpiece to a dinner table, which can even become part of the dessert at the end of the meal. A candle can be placed in the middle of the gingerbread, for moody, fun lighting to the table itself. This will make a photogenic centerpiece and will be worth all the time and effort put into crafting it.

Nuts and Candy Decoration

By laying out almonds or other nuts, or candy in a dish or easily accessible glass--like a martini glass--in front of each place setting, guests will have the option to both admire and consume their individual decoration. These glasses or dishes can have a mix of nuts and candies, to perhaps complement the wine which is served at dinner. Mixing certain nuts and candies--like wasabi peas and M&Ms--will make a colorful addition to any table. Both nuts and candy can also hold up against the exposed air over long periods of time, meaning they can be used as a table decoration time and time again.

Flower Petals

Flower petals can be spread all over the table, creating a romantic and beautiful table decoration that is easy to lay out and acquire. A wide variety of flower petals can be bought very inexpensively from florists and sprinkled across the tabletop itself. Depending on the theme of the dinner or event, a variety of types of flower petals might be a great idea to bring the full spectrum of color to this scattered but beautiful decoration. Flower petals can also be sprinkled into a small vase of water to be set out as a centerpiece on the table, allowing the colors of the petals to bleed into the water and creating an artistic center to the table itself.
