Tabletop Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas

Tabletop Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas

For many people, the larger their Christmas tree is the better. However, Christmas trees can cause a mess with fallen pine needles and a safety hazard if there are small children at home. Not to mention, the bigger a tree is, the more expensive it will be. An alternative option are tabletop Christmas trees. These are small, artificial decorations made to look like Christmas trees and sit on top of tables. Decorating these trees can be done just as easily (and more quickly) than their life-size counterparts. Does this Spark an idea?

Natural Decorations

Save money and have a chic decoration theme with natural decorations. String popcorn and cranberries and wrap them around the tree. Nestle walnuts into the folds of the tree's branches. Have your tree double as a candy dish by placing it near the door or in the living room. Place wrapped peppermint and other types of candies at the bottom to resemble edible gifts. Another way to go au naturale with your tree is to use paper decorations, you can fashion small, origami cranes in various colors and perch them on the branches of your tree. You can also cut out star shapes from different colored paper and string it on the tree too. Make a small papier mache star to afix to the top of your tree.

Lighten Up

Unlike large trees that can carry a hodgepodge of ornaments, smaller trees look best with a simple theme that adds a special design element to the room they are in. One option is to have tabletop trees decorated only with different strings of lights. They will provide a colorful, festive feel to any room. Juxtapose large, opaque tear drop shaped lights with smaller white lights. Or use several strings of small lights that are different colors. Purchase a tree star made of lights to place on top of the tree.

Ornaments

There are unlimited options for different ornaments to use on your tree. You can keep it simple by using only ornaments of one type. Or you can make it interesting by adding your most sentimental ornaments. Many of us have ornaments that were made in grade school and kept through the years, use that as a theme to bring back memories for your friends and family. Buy miniature cookie cutters and make sugar cookies, before you bake them poke a hole in the top for string to go through. Bake the cookies, decorate them and use them as ornaments for your tree.
