For all practical purposes, a hallway is simply a route to get to another part of the house. Since it leads to rooms that are, presumably, decorated, shouldn't the path that leads to them be decorated as well? As an introduction to the rooms, the hallway can be decorated as a "cross-over" from one place to another. Giving the hallway the attention it requires will make your house more accommodating. Does this Spark an idea?
Features
The hallway can have a wide variety of features, including pictures, flowers or plaques, all of which indicate the homeowner's specific taste in color and favorite dcor. If the rooms have a vast difference of dcor, the hallway should be the transition area to the rooms. Decorations indicating the possible destinations invite the traveler to experience the rooms that lie ahead.
Size
Given that a hallway is narrow in comparison to the rooms to which it leads, it behooves the homeowner to pay attention to the size of the desired decorations. For example, an accent table may take up too much space and even cause injury. In addition, large portraits or other wall hangings, though they hint to the dcor of the possible destination, will make the hallway appear narrow and uninviting. Think "introduction" to help keep the size of the hallway dcor to a manageable one.
Function
A hallway has its own function, which plays a significant role in its dcor. If a child's bedroom is decorated with blue and red, then something that hints to those colors can be incorporated into the hallway decorations. Everyone knows that a hallway is going to lead to a bathroom, so a small item announcing its presence can be placed on the wall close by. Repeating this for the other rooms will create the unique function of a hallway.
Type
Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is the decoration of a hallway. The types of decorations that a homeowner can choose from are as wide and varied as the imagination. Wall hangings can be custom-made for your specific decorating theme. They can include quilt-hanging shelves with a quilt matching the colors of a specific room and what-nots that match the quilt.
Benefits
Hall decorations may indicate the self-esteem and talent of the homeowner. Someone who has a high level of self-esteem will reap the benefit of self-confidence while experiencing the hallway decoration process. Talent is something everyone has, but it needs to be honed on a constant basis. This means that hallway decorations may change.
