How to Decorate Long Hallways in a Commercial Space

How to Decorate Long Hallways in a Commercial Space

Commercial hallways or corridors give visitors and clients a feel of the business before they even step into an office. Companies use this space as a chance to create a good first impression. When decorating a long hallway, use a variety of elements that blend with one another to create a cohesive style and a clean, professional and organized environment. Use elements that represent your business or its function to acquaint the visitors before you meet them.

Instructions

    1

Paint the walls of the hallway neutral and pastel shades to lighten the space and create a warm, welcoming environment. Consider a soft yellow, light green or warm cream to accentuate wood doors and paneling. Avoid dark shades that make the space appear closed in. If desired, introduce the color of the companys logo within the pastel shades. For tall walls featuring dado rails along the middle, use a slightly deeper tone on the lower half of the wall and a lighter, complementing shade on the upper half, and paint the woodwork white.

    2

Install flooring that is hard-wearing and withstands the traffic it is exposed to everyday, such as tile or wood. Alternatively, spread a runner over the floor or lay small rugs under each seating arrangement. Consider durable, natural fiber options such as sisal or jute.

    3

Place simple but elegant furniture featuring clean lines in the hallway. Push a long table against the wall in the middle of the hallway and mount a rectangular mirror above it. Arrange a small sofa and chairs on either side of the long table. Place a small table along the side of each chair for visitors to place their belongings or coffee while they wait.

    4

Decorate the walls with appropriate artwork. Select a focal wall and display a large framed painting or portrait over it to create a dramatic impact. Ensure the colors of the artwork blend with the walls. Display smaller framed pictures of what the business is related to on other walls, or showcase prints of cityscapes or landscapes to spruce up the space.

    5

Install wall sconces on either side of the focal artwork, and the remaining pieces of art on display, to illuminate the space and provide safe passages in the evening and night. Place lamps with attached dimmers on the tables.

    6

Place a large fresh flower arrangement in the center of the long table against the wall. Also display smaller fresh or silk flower arrangements on smaller tables.
