How to Decorate a Hall Wall

How to Decorate a Hall Wall

Dress up a plain hallway with paint, family treasures and antiques that blend well with the rest of your home. Making a few simple changes can add life to a lonely area of your home that might only get noticed as people walk through the hall on their way to the bathroom. Place end tables in the hall with trinkets on top if you have a really wide hallway, but concentrate on decorating the walls to serve as your main focal point. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Paint the hallway to match one of the colors in an adjoining room so that the shades blend together as they cascade into the hall. Oftentimes hallways extend from the living or dining area and adding color to the hall can create more flow in your home.

    2

Hang up pictures of family on one side of the hallway. Choose different sized frames such as 11-by-13, 8-by-10 and 5-by-7 to showcase some of your favorite photos. Keep the photos at eye level or slightly above. You don't need to align the tops of the frames at the same height. Hang the photos up at various levels to create a picture slide show. However, take down extra photos if the wall looks too cluttered.

    3

Hang up other decor pieces on the other wall within the hallway. If you like western decor, hang up a rope along with a cowboy hat and some western art. Create a decorative display that coordinates with the decor in the rest of the home. For example, a western look goes well with general Southwest decor throughout the house. Hang up dried flowers, wall hangings or other types of modern decor if you want to create a different look.

    4

Install an additional ceiling light in your hallway to bring more light into this dark corner of the house. Adding light can revive the area and make it easier to see your pictures and wall displays.

    5

Place a plant that requires low light in the corner of the hallway if you have extra room. A small tropical palm tree, hibiscus plant or ivy vine can add more greenery to any room, especially a dark hallway.
