Cheap Holiday Decorating Ideas

Cheap Holiday Decorating Ideas

Decorating your home for the holiday season can be fun, easy and inexpensive. Craft stores, dollar stores and flea markets are excellent places to find inexpensive supplies and inspiration. Embark on your holiday decorating with a little imagination and creativity and you will be amazed by how quickly and easily you can turn your home into a beautiful holiday wonderland.

Pine Cone Centerpiece

Spray paint pine cones of different sizes with red, silver and gold spray paint. Allow to dry and place them in a decorative bowl. Add sprigs of fresh pine to complete the look and add a nice fragrance to your home.

Bow Tie Place Setting

Begin with a set of dinner plates and a matching fabric napkin. Fold the napkin into a rectangle and place it on top of the dinner plate. Put your silverware on top of the napkin. Place satin ribbon around the dinner plate and tie a bow in the center of the napkin. This creates a simple, yet classic look for your table.

Gift Mirror or Picture

Wrap the hanging pictures and mirrors in your home with festive wrapping paper to create "gifts". Place a large strip of co-coordinating ribbon from the top to the bottom and from side to side. Place a large bow in the center where the pieces of ribbon meet. Be sure to use a high quality paper to prevent tears.

Flowery Tree

To add a beautiful touch to your Christmas tree, purchase several inexpensive poinsettia bushes and place in varying spots on your tree. You can find these for sale at many dollar stores. Add about 12 to 15 for a dramatic look. You can also include sprigs of berries or holly bushes as well.

Throw Pillows

Adding gold or red throw pillows to your couch can add an instant holiday touch. You can also tie some color coordinated ribbon around your existing throw pillows and tie a bow in the center.

Picture Frame

Remove pictures from your existing picture frames and replace with pretty Christmas cards or wrapping paper for a quick and easy decorative touch.

Outdoor Wreaths

To dress up the exterior of your home for the holidays, add a large red ribbon to an inexpensive pine wreath and place on each window with suction cups. For a more dramatic look, place individual candle lights on the inside of the windows at the center bottom of each wreath.

Glass Block Lights

Purchase glass blocks from a home improvement store and place Christmas lights inside. Tie a pretty ribbon outside and you'll have an inexpensive, yet beautiful Christmas decoration. You will need a special glass drill bit to drill a hole in the bottom of the block. Make sure the hole is large enough to insert the strand of lights. After drilling, clean the dust inside the glass block and let it dry overnight. Once the block is dry, insert the lights, tie a decorative ribbon around the outside and make a large bow for the center. Wired ribbon works best for this project.
