How to Make a Rolling Cart

How to Make a Rolling Cart

If you need a rolling cart but don't want to break the bank buying one, you can make a simple rolling cart from an infant changing table. You can find a changing table at your local thrift store, yard sale or you may even have one lying around the house awaiting a project. Changing tables are built with handy storage shelves and a sturdy frame to keep baby safe. Turn it into a unique and interesting rolling cart that is sure to become a conversation piece in your furniture collection.

Instructions

    1

Place the changing table on its top. Place a caster onto the bottom of one leg centered and flush with the wood. Place your pencil inside the hole where the screw should go and make a small mark. Do this with the remaining three legs. These marks signify where you will predrill.

    2

Using the drill, predrill the areas that you have marked. This step will not only make the attachment of the casters smoother, it will also keep the wooden legs from cracking and splintering when screwing in the casters.

    3

Use the hardware included with the casters to attach the casters to the legs with a screwdriver. Be sure to tighten them to the legs securely. This will keep your finished cart from wobbling.

    4

Flip the cart over and test the casters to make sure they roll correctly. To dress up your newly constructed rolling cart, give it a fresh coat of paint or stain to match your dcor. Allow plenty of time to dry.

    5

Place your small coat hook on the side of the cart flush with the wood. Mark with your pencil where you want to attach it. Predrill the mark and attach the coat hook with a screwdriver. This will be a convenient place to hang a dishrag or cloth napkins.

    6

Screw in the six cup hooks to the top's underside. There is no predrilling required for these and they can be screwed in by hand. Use these hooks as handy storage for coffee cups or other handled utensils.
