Projects to Make for a Baby's Room

Awaiting the arrival of a baby is a magical time. Parents dream about what their baby will look like and count down the days until they can hold their little one and look into his eyes. As they prepare for the big day parents usually set up the baby's room. There are lots of projects that can be made for the baby's nursery to decorate it and provide the necessities. Making these items yourself also saves money so you can save those hard earned dollars for other expenses, like your new baby's college fund. Does this Spark an idea?

Diaper Stacker

Sew a diaper stacker. Diaper stackers hold baby diapers in a neat, orderly and easy to reach fashion so one doesn't have to search around for diapers in the middle of the night. Choose a fun fabric that coordinates with the theme or color scheme of the nursery. Then follow a pattern to complete the actual sewing on the diaper stacker. Last hang it in the baby's room.

Changing Table

A changing table is a must for a baby's nursery. Choose a simple design which is basically a flat topped structure with a bordered top level to hold a changing pad. Add a small railing or higher border to add a little more security for when your baby begins to roll and wiggle around. Add some shelves or drawers below the table to hold all of baby's changing items as well as clothes, towels, sheets or other things the baby needs.

Mobile

Give the baby something to look at while she lays on her back and tries to fall asleep, make a mobile. Use thick wire for the framing then add decorative items to fit with the theme of the nursery. For a jungle or zoo themed baby's room you might want to hang small stuffed animals from the mobile. For a fishing themed nursery you might choose to make paper mache fish and hang them from the wires. Be creative and have fun. Remember to devise a way to attach the mobile to the side of the crib, most use clamps or velcro tie-ons of some sort. You can also hang the mobile from the wall or ceiling. Just make sure the mobile stays out of your baby's reach to prevent tangling or choking.

Crib Bumper Pads

Create breathable baby bumpers for the crib. Use soft mesh material to fill the center and add some plush fabric on the edges to give the bumpers some style while continuing to remain fashionable. You can choose any height of bumpers you desire but make sure they cover all the edges and are breathable so that if the baby were to roll into the bumper he would still be able to breathe.

Toy Chest

If you have some wood working skills you can put together a nice toy chest. Construct the wooden chest as you would any other (you can find plans and instruction guides on various sites online or purchase blueprint plans at a hardware store). Then paint and decorate the chest to personalize it and make it fit the theme of the room. Be sure to add proper safety hinges and latches to avoid pinching little fingers.
